Hermon and Scarlet Fever: memories by Robert Shackles

Let me introduce myself. I am Robert Earl Shackles the third son of
> Clyde Sherman Shackles & Marie " Newell" Shackles. Your father Fred
> "Freddy" Shackles was my first cousin, And his parents Fred & Cora
> Shackles were my Uncle & Aunt. We lived on 15th st. there in Sedalia &
> Uncle Fred & Aunt Cora lived just across the alley on 16th.St. Both
> houses are there today. When we were kids we played together all the
> time. Of course Albert, Homer and Lou Ella were older so we only played
> with Freddy & Percy. Did any one tell you about Herman who died in
> 1935?  I played with Hermon when he was sick in bed a few days before he
> died. I beleave he had Scarlet Fever but  Aunt Cora didn't know it at
> the time I was playing with him on the bed. In just a couple a days the
> house was under quarantine and he died only a few days later. I don't
> think there was a funeral because I remember the big black hearse that
> came to the house to pick him up. We ran and followed the hearse all the
> way to Crown Hill. In 1943 my brother Charles & I came to Sedalia and we
> got to spend several days with Freddy & Percy. My wife Norma and I were
> at Percy's visitation and also at Lou Ellas funeral. Do you remember us?
> I have been in contact with Peggy and I told her I have pictures of
> uncle Fred, Aunt Cora, Albert, Homer Lou Ella and my Uncle Pete and Aunt
> Haddie when Pete was in uniform in 1918 and another pic. of them just
> before Pete died. Its hard for me to believe that Aunt Cora & Uncle Fred
> as well as all their kids are now gone. What a shame. My Dad's sister
> Aunt Ella and my uncle Dan Harmon I remember well also.
